Garin College hosted Queen Charlotte College for the annual sports exchange on Wednesday this week. Despite the sudden wintery blast that swept through the region earlier in the day, students competed in a full programme of netball, football, rugby sevens, basketball and badminton. With Queen Charlotte College notching up wins in football and badminton, and Garin taking the honours in netball and rugby sevens, the decider of the exchange lay with basketball. The atmosphere was electric as the girls and then the boys played their hearts out in the school gym. Garin nudged ahead with a win by the girls team, but QCC proved to be too strong in the final quarter and a win by their boys’ team balanced the ledger. The overall result of a draw was a fair outcome for both schools. As they say, sport was the winner on the day, and both schools are already looking forward to the 2022 exchange. I would like to thank our Sports Leaders, Margeaux Harris and Tom Lloyd for their exemplary leadership on the day, all staff who assisted with the exchange, and students and other members of the college community who came along to cheer on the home team.
