Garin College Senior A netball team travelled down to Christchurch September 11th for the annual South Island Secondary Schools (SISS) tournament. Each year, we work hard as a team throughout the whole season, and this year was no different. After many morning fitness trainings and practices to improve our skills under the guidance of Trish Leonard, Robyn Leonard and Janelle Macgregor, our bodies (and minds) were prepared for the long, hard week ahead. As a relatively new bunch of girls, we were determined to make an impact and enter the tournament resilient, determined and (almost) injury free! With a range of playing combinations at hand we felt that we had a flexible team going into the tournament. We were a young team and in a fairly difficult pool but were prepared for what was coming. Captained by Claudia Leonard (Yr 12) the team included: Samantha Smith (Yr 13), Brydie Leonard (Yr 13), Maddie Inglis, Emma Lackner, Kate McCashin (Yr 12) Georgia Binns, Zara Harris, Caitlin Roberts (Yr 11), and Keri Snodgrass (Yr 10), Caleb Binns (umpire), Justine Butler (manager) and Janelle Macgregor (coach). A highlight for the tournament was Caleb Binns being awarded the C Grade Final and also being named in the talented umpire squad. We are going to miss Caleb being part of our team next year. Thanks go to all the families, Garin staff and students who sent messages of support throughout the week, it really makes a huge difference. Bring on 2018 in Dunedin!
