Whakatū Marae

At the beginning of this term our staff gathered at Whakatū Marae for a day of celebration, learning, sharing and team building embedded in tikanga Māori. Following our pōwhiri, Matua Simon Pimm along with tangata whenua guided us in learning the whakapapa and significance of the whare, Kakati. Through the sharing of kai and mihi throughout the day our teachers and staff developed a deeper connectedness with each other and confidence toward meeting the needs of all of our students. This day was an exciting beginning to our school year and our focus as a staff on enhancing our cultural competency to embed tikanga Māori within the culture and curriculum of our college.
