National Sport Representation


Garin  had a number of students representative at the National Secondary Schools Athletics competition and the National Rugby 7’s in Auckland on the weekend. National Athletics Congratulations to Ryan Churchill on coming 2nd at Triple Jump with a personal best jump of 13.16m. Ryan was holding the lead until the final jump of the day. Jared Lautenslager ran an eight-second personal best of 8min37.68secs for seventh in the senior boys 3,000m. Condor Rugby 7’s Garin College's young squad thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of national rugby 7s finals. Garin punched above their weight with some good wins and even managed to knock over Taranaki based Catholic College Francis Douglas Memorial. Matthew Stevenson was top try scorer for Garin averaging 2-3 try's a match with Max Nalder, Ryan Churchill, Duncan Drysdale and Poihipi Clayton all performing particularly well throughout the two days. Given our role of only 249 boys and a squad largely made up of year 11 and 12's who are new to rugby 7's Garin did remarkably well to finish ahead of traditional NZ schoolboy rugby powerhouses Otago Boys High School, St Pat Silvertream and Francis Douglas Memorial College to name just a few
